Mask Contest Draws Dozens of Entries

From repurposed Homer Hankies to a homemade Mister Rogers mask, our neighbors came through with many colorful entries in our face mask contest on Facebook.

The North Loop Neighborhood Association was looking for a fun way to help local businesses and support public health. We offered to buy gift cards to North Loop businesses for photos of the most creative masks in recognizable North Loop locations. The winners got to choose which businesses would get the prize money.

First prize went to Tim Schrank, who lives in the North Loop. He wore a Twins mask and posed in front of the mural on Modist Brewing’s patio, saying that his dog, Daisy, misses hanging out there. For his prize, he had us buy him a $100 gift card to Smack Shack.

Ashley Boldin of Northeast Minneapolis won second prize with a mask covered in little hearts. She biked over to the North Loop and took a shot in front of Art Xing in the Tower Tunnel. We bought her a $75 gift card at the restaurant she selected, Red Cow.

And third prize went to a former chemistry teacher, Jon Peterson, whose wife has made and donated hundreds of masks in the North Loop. The one he wore in his photo featured the Periodic Table. He had a view of the North Loop and the Minneapolis skyline behind him. He’ll be using a $25 gift card at Wrecktangle Pizza when it reopens in the North Loop Galley.

Thanks to all who entered — and let’s keep supporting local businesses at a safe social distance!
