Stay in the Loop

Sushi Restaurant Opening In May

Colorful new signs are up, helping build excitement for the upcoming arrival of Billy Sushi at 116 North 1st Avenue, the vacant space formerly occupied by Sweet Chow. Owner Billy Tserenbat says he doesn’t have an official opening date yet, but it will be in “the first week of May. For sure.”

The new restaurant will have about 100 seats, a full bar and a sushi bar. It’ll be inside an historic Victorian building that dates back to 1887.

And it will be in a part of the North Loop that’s about to be much more vibrant, with the completion of the large Second and Second retail/residential development. The new complex will feature more than 150 apartments, a West Elm store that’s opening March 5th, and a Circa Lighting showroom that’s scheduled to open in July.

Billy founded the Twin Cities’ first sushi truck, Sushi Fix, and eventually transformed it into a restaurant by the same name in Wayzata. He also ran Eat Bibuta and Baja Haus.
