With New Kitchen, AxeBridge Wine Co Now Offering “Food Pairings”

As an urban winery that was just in its infancy when the pandemic shut everything down, AxeBridge Wine Co. is finally back on its feet to the point that it’s now offering the type of kitchen service that was in the initial plans–a selection of shareables and small plates designed to go well with AxeBridge wines.

“Since we’re a winery first, the food really complements those wines that we’re kind of known for,” said co-owner Aaron Schram. “So it’s pairing the food with the wine rather than the wine with the food, right? It’s kind of the reverse of what a lot of restaurants do.”

AxeBridge recently built out its kitchen, assembled a new culinary team and as of Friday, May 26th, is debuting a new section with tables where diners can have the food brought directly to them rather than having to pick it up at the bar.

“We don’t really have a theme like Mediterranean,” said Schram. “What we really have is what I call a perfect pairing. My favorite is the Marquette burger (to go with the Marquette wine). The onions and such are made in a jam sauce with Marquette. We have a mac and cheese. It’s gonna be one of the favorites with really thick, rich sauce but it goes with this white wine that we have perfectly.”

AxeBridge also has everything from charred octopus to curried chickpeas on its new menu, which will change up periodically. The winery is located at 411 North Washington.
